• The John Deere 4240 tractor was introduced in 1978 as part of "The Iron Horses" line of tractors. These tractors had more powerful engines, greatly increased drawbar pull, and 3-point hitch lift capacity. The 4240 was powered by a naturally aspirated 466 cubic-inch engine giving it 111 PTO horsepower. This was an increase of over 10 horsepower from the 4230 model it replaced.
